Remember during the pandemic when only a few McDonald’s in the country opened to begin with and people were driving 200 miles to get them and queueing for hours at the drive thru to satisfy their cravings?

I thought that that was going to be peak fast food, but an even stupider situation has arisen over in Russia where citizens have been going absolutely crazy for their last chance to sample the Golden Arches after McDonald’s announced they would be closing all 800 locations in the country as a protest against their invasion of Ukraine. Video footage is now emerging on social media of vehicles queuing for up to one kilometre at the drive thru and lines going around the block to get one last bite of their beloved Big Macs and Filet-O-Fishes before they’re gone forever:

Some other chancers have bought up a bunch of them and are selling them for big bucks on eBay. Gotta respect that hustle:

Really does seem like it’s a sad time for a load of Russians and not just with regards to the invasion and their opinions on what Putin is trying to achieve. I say ‘sad’ with a tinge of regret myself because I still can’t fathom how much people love crappy fast food like McDonald’s to the point that they’re willing to stand/sit around for hours in order to have one last way below average burger. Maybe if anything good comes of this it will be that the Russian people stop eating crappy American fast food and discover some good local delicacies and help out domestic businesses – although obviously that’s not really a fair trade off for what’s going on in Ukraine right now.

For more of the same, check out these Ukrainians celebrating by taking a joyride on a stolen Russian tank. Looks like a lot of fun.
