Die-hard Rod Stewart fans might know this anecdote already if you’ve read his memoir ‘Rod: The Autobiography’, but it’s gone viral again after Elon Musk responded to a Twitter post that mentioned it, prompting a new generation of music fans to investigate.

Concerned with the impact that cocaine might have on his nasal passages and his voice (which was raspy enough already), Stewart found the most sensible way to take cocaine was by shoving it up his bum hole:

“So we started buying anticold capsules from the chemist’s, separating the two halves of the capsules, replacing their contents with a pinch of cocaine, and then taking the capsules anally, where, of course, the human body being a wonderful thing, they would dissolve effortlessly into the system.”

You really have to admire a man who values his craft and drug addiction so equally. What I want to know is – does taking cocaine anally numb your butt hole/rectal canal the way it does your face or gums? Whatever it did I guess old Rod enjoyed it or simply felt he had no other choice if he was to protect his voice and nasal passage. Work smarter, not harder!

It doesn’t seem to have done him any harm in the long run either, as Rod is now 78-years-old and still performing occasionally. Although presumably not still taking cocaine via his anus or otherwise. Then again, would it really be that shocking if he was? Hit it:
