Pretty much the whole entire world is pissed off with Russia at the moment because they’ve decided to invade Ukraine and so it’s a somewhat bizarre move from President Vladimir Putin to compare himself to J.K. Rowling and paint himself as a victim of cancel culture.

Putin was addressing the nation on TV yesterday when he decided to say the following:

J.K. Rowling was canceled by Western culture because she didn’t satisfy the demands of gender rights.

They are now trying to cancel our country. I’m talking about the progressive discrimination of everything to do with Russia.

We remember the footage when they were burning books.

It is impossible to imagine such a thing in our country and we are insured against this thanks to our culture.

And it’s inseparable for us from our motherland, from Russia, where there is no place for ethnic intolerance, where for centuries representatives from dozens of ethnic groups have been living together.

Yeah, I don’t really think he’s doing himself any favours there, because I don’t think even the people that are on J.K. Rowling’s side in the question of transgender rights would back Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Maybe the Russian people might enjoy that analogy though? Guess he needs to explore every avenue right now as his popularity is on the wane even in his own country. Not sure how we can figure out if it’s worked or not. I’m going to guess it probably didn’t.

For more of the same, did you hear the rumour that Putin might be dying from terminal cancer? Crazy.
