Everyone enjoys flirting but I don’t know how many of us would say that we were actually good at it – thankfully though some psychologists have decided to study it and tell us one technique that almost always works. The professors surveyed 1000 students in Norway and the United States of both sexes and asked them for 40 different types of flirting for both long term and short term relationships.

Here’s what they had to say:

Flirting involves different signals that people send to each other. It’s done to attract potential partners.

Men and women both flirt to get the attention of a desired partner, and perhaps to achieve a sexual or romantic result from it.

What’s most effective depends on your gender and whether the purpose of the flirtation is a long-term or short-term relationship.

People think that humour, or being able to make another person laugh, is most effective for men who are looking for a long-term relationship.

It’s least effective for women who are looking for a one-night stand. But laughing or giggling at the other person’s jokes is an effective flirtation tactic for both sexes.

It is not only effective to be funny, but for women it is very important that you show your potential partner that you think they are funny.

Geez, I really thought I was gonna get something good there. I mean it’s hardly rocket science to think that cracking a few jokes and making someone laugh might make them want to hook up with you is it? Ugly people have been doing it their whole entire lives.

Do other top findings from the study include learning to play guitar and hitting the gym? Come on now. Sorry to get your hopes up with this article – enjoy your weekend anyway. And good luck.

For more of the same, check out when this guy hacked Tinder so that straight guys ended up flirting. Much funnier than it sounds.
