PE Teacher Who Told Migrants To ‘Respect Our Laws Or Leave’ Banned From Classroom Despite Being Cleared Of Racism
A PE teacher who told migrants to ‘respect our laws or leave’ has been banned from the classroom despite being cleared of racism and it being recommended that he keep his job.
Sam Everett taught PE at Haughton Academy in Darlington for two years while using his X account to Tweet his political views (you can see where this is going).
His views were, shall we say, ‘right-leaning’ – including calling for the Navy to be deployed to stop small boats crossing the Channel into the UK.

Someone who disagreed with his views worked out where Sam was employed and reported the Tweets to the Haughton Academy, leading to a review by an independent teaching panel.
Among the Tweets investigated: ‘Completely agree, if you don’t respect our laws, culture and way of life you should leave, nobody is forcing you to stay. We don’t go to other peoples countries and tell them they’re wrong for how they go about things.’
In response to a Tweet saying ‘The law of Allah is superior to your laws’, he wrote: ‘Sick of hearing rubbish being spouted by these idiots. They can live in societies where their values are accepted, it isn’t here. Leave. You won’t be missed.’
And: ‘There’s not an Islamist problem in our country according to some. How many times do we get called racists for being English? These people come from the most intolerable and barbaric places you can imagine and think they have more rights than us. Bore off.’
He also wrote that anyone who uses the word ‘comrade’ ‘deserves to be shipped to Russia’ (true), and when pro-Palestine protesters were picketing McDonald’s he wrote: ‘Feel like ordering 20 nuggets every time I see these idiots.’ Classic X banter!

In the end, the independent teaching panel found the posts offensive and concluded Sam had shown a ‘lack of tolerance’, but did not find him guilty of racism and recommended that the school let him keep his job.
The panel also noted that colleagues had spoken highly of Sam, that he had a clean record teaching pupils from all backgrounds.
Despite this, the Secretary of State’s decision-maker overruled the panel and enforced the ban, saying the ruling did not ‘satisfy the public interest requirement concerning public confidence in the profession’.
He was sacked by Haughton Academy in June 2024 and is now banned from teaching indefinitely.
Which seems a bit harsh, really. I mean, I’m sure there are plenty of teachers out there (PE and otherwise) who share the same views although they aren’t necessarily bold/dumb enough to share them on social media. At least not using their real pic and name so that anyone with a grudge can figure out where they work and ruin their lives.
Ultimately, the panel ruled in Sam’s favour, but he got sacked anyway and banned from teaching for the foreseeable future. Fair grounds for an appeal, I’d say. But maybe keep the X account anonymous next time.
