Battle rap legend Pat Stay has died following a stabbing at a nightclub in Nova Scotia, Canada, after reportedly attempting to break up a fight between two other parties.

According to CBC News, Stay was discovered by police with multiple stab wounds just after 12:30AM on Sunday morning. He was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away from his injuries.

Since then, tributes have been flying in from the battle rap community and wider hip hop community, including Drake, Eminem, Alchemist and R.A. The Rugged Man:

Days earlier, Pat Stay had released a diss track to The Game in which he also paid homage to Eminem. It’s racked up a quarter of a million views and counting:

The guy was enormously popular in the battle rap world, with a larger than life personality and some of the more hilarious and brutal putdowns in the scene’s history, as seen in the compilation below:

Pat is survived by his wife Malyssa and two kids Calvin and Alaura. A memorial fund has been set up to help them out in this time, which you can check out HERE.

RIP to one of the best battle rappers of all time, who by all accounts was a topnotch human being too. To pass away under those circumstances and at 36 years of age is just devastating. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
