How crazy is this? A few months ago it came out that the NFL had been quietly pursuing a lawsuit against M.I.A. since 2012 after she extended her middle finger during a performance at the Superbowl Half-Time Show — an event watched by 167 million households. M.I.A. wasn’t paid for the event (as is custom) but the NFL got the ball rolling on a $1.5 million lawsuit claiming she breached her performance contract and hurt their family-friendly reputation.

Fast forward to 2014 and the NFL is now seeking $16.6 MILLION from M.I.A. in ‘restitution’ as the estimated value of public exposure she received by appearing for 2 minutes during Madonna’s performance. The figure is based on what they say advertisers would have paid for ads during this time.

“The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact or logic”, said M.I.A.’s lawyers.

$16.6 million for a middle finger? That literally sounds insane. Like literally something that someone clinically insane would come up with. Let’s just ignore the fact that the NFL is a hotbed for bone-crunching tackles, devastating concussions, and that there were other girls in the background of M.I.A’s performance having air sex while she sang, M.I.A.’s middle finger is what really crossed the line. Time to cough up $16.6 million big ones.
