In another example of how ridiculous things can get when left to the general public in internet polls (see the earlier Cradle of Filth debacle), the city of Austin, Texas’ decision to decide the name of its new waste department is looking to lead to it being christened ‘The Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts’ after the controversial Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. Some would argue that this is a match made in heaven.

‘The Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts’ is the standout contender in the title race, dwarfing second place’s ‘The Department of Neat and Clean’ by over 15,000 votes at the time of writing. Other popular (re: stupid) suggestions included ‘Texas A & M University,’ ‘Nickelback,’ ‘Hippy Scum,’ ‘Jesse’s Mom’ and my personal favourite ‘Garbage 3:16.’

Voting ends on February 10th so you can still make you vote count over at Austin City Connection. Only time will tell if the Austin City Council is as prudent as Choose Suffolk over the issue.
