It’s never nice to watch someone, much less a 60-year-old elementary school teacher, get bitten the sh*t out of by a monk seal. But as Hawaii News Now mention in their Tweet; she was warned multiple times not to go in the water! What are we dealing with here? A two year old? Don’t touch the stove! Don’t run into traffic! Don’t go into the water where the bloodthirsty monk seal is on patrol!

In her husband’s interview with DLNR , there was a total refusal to take any responsibility for what happened, as he claimed he and his wife had been visiting the beach for 3 weeks and were there when the pup was born:

‘[We] saw the pup at Kaimana immediately after it was born. We’ve read all the safe viewing signs and abide by them. These seals swam up behind her and she was not aware of them…I believe all of the commotion on the beach likely added to her frustration.

There is no one to blame here. All my wife did was go swimming and she happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.’

Well that’s nice and all, but they were still warned not to go into the water. Seals may seem harmless but they can be surprisingly vicious; they’re strong, heavy and intelligent creatures who can rip you to pieces despite having no hands. If you see one, you should probably swim/leg it out of the water as fast as you can. Not swim up to it for a playdate with its newborn pup. You live and you learn.
