Megan Rapinoe Criticises The ‘Disgusting’ Exclusion Of Trans Athletes In Swimming

Yesterday it was announced that the International Swimming Association would be excluding transgender athletes – specifically anyone that went through puberty after the age of 12 – from their events following the outcry against Lia Thomas winning the NCAA 500 metre female freestyle event earlier this year. She had been born a man and recently transitioned.

Most people seemed happy about his development as there’s been a somewhat justified backlash against Thomas’ victory and decrying the fact that she was pushing biological women out of the championship places. However, one trans ally that has raised a good argument about the exclusion of trans athletes here is US Women’s National Team superstar and notable woke/progressive Megan Rapinoe.

Here’s what she had to say:

I’m 100 percent supportive of trans inclusion. People do not know very much about it. We’re missing almost everything.

Frankly, I think what a lot of people know is versions of the right’s talking points because they’re very loud. They’re very consistent, and they’re relentless.

At the highest level, there is regulation. In collegiate sports, there is regulation. And at the Olympic and professional level. It’s not like it’s a free-for-all where everyone’s just doing whatever.

Show me the evidence that trans women are taking everyone’s scholarships, are dominating in every sport, are winning every title. I’m sorry, it’s just not happening.

So we need to start from inclusion, period. And as things arise, I have confidence that we can figure it out. But we can’t start at the opposite. That is cruel. And frankly, it’s just disgusting.

So, we need to really kind of take a step back and get a grip on what we’re really talking about here because people’s lives are at risk. Kids’ lives are at risk with the rates of suicide, the rates of depression and negative mental health and drug abuse.

We’re putting everything through God forbid a trans person be successful in sports. Get a grip on reality and take a step back.

Yeah, I can see what she’s saying with that point, but I can also see why people are upset about trans athletes competing against and beating those who are biologically inferior to them because of the genetic advantages they were born with. Both arguments have at least some weight and like I said in the original article I wrote about the International Swimming Association banning transgender athletes from elite competition, I don’t think I’m going to be able to sum it up in a couple of sentences at the end of a Sick Chirpse article. Good luck to anyone trying to figure it out in a way that suits everyone involved though.

As for Megan Rapinoe, I’m pretty sure she’s going to absolutely get it in the comments because people already pretty much hate her and they also love shouting off about transgender people and their rights (or lack of them). Take it away, but fair play to Rapinoe for going against the grain and using her position to at least ask the question and put another perspective out there.

For more of the same, check out when Rapinoe got completely rinsed by most of her country after the USA lost the opening game of the Olympics. Can’t please everyone I guess.
