Manchester United Owner Says The UK Has Been ‘Colonised’ By Immigrants

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stated in an interview with Sky News that the UK has been “colonised” by immigrants.

The 73-year-old billionaire, who is founder and chairman of one of the world’s largest chemical companies, INEOS, said politicians needed to ‘do some difficult things with the UK to get it back on track’.

He told Sky News: ‘You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in.

‘I mean, the UK is being colonised. It’s costing too much money. The UK has been colonised by immigrants.’

‘If you really want to deal with the major issues of immigration, with people opting to take benefits rather than working for a living, if you want to deal with that, then you are going to have to do some things which are unpopular and show some courage.’

In the interview, he also said that Sir Keir Starmer was ‘maybe too nice’. However, he believes Nigel Farage is an ‘intelligent man’ with ‘good intentions.’

He added: ‘I think it needs somebody who’s prepared to be unpopular for a period of time to get the big issues sorted out.’

He also made a wild claim in the interview that the UK population had grown from 58 million in 2020 to 70 million today – an increase of 12 million people that he attributed to migration.

I guess only someone who emigrated to Monaco to dodges taxes could think the population has gone up by 12 million in just 5 years. Any decent journalist would have called him out on that instantly, but obviously it’s not true. The Office of National Statistics (ONS) estimates that the population of the UK was 67 million in mid-2020 and 70 million in mid-2024, which sounds a lot more realistic.

Wonder what a few of the Manchester United players will be feeling about this? After all, so many of them have emigrated to the UK with their families to build their lives and careers in the UK. Of course, they’re the ‘right kind’ of immigrants because they work and pay their taxes, but still.

I do know one ex-United player who’s going to be absolutely fuming for sure:

It does seem a bizarre thing for Sir Ratcliffe to speak out on, especially as he no longer lives in the UK or pays tax here, but also because he’s based his argument on numbers that are completely wrong.

Just when you thought things were finally starting to settle at United eh?
