‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Star Turned Down ‘Buckets Of Money’ To Return As Dewey In Series Revival

‘Erik Per Sullivan’ isn’t exactly a household name, but I think most people would recognise him as Dewey Wilkinson AKA the littlest brother from Malcolm in the Middle. After the series wrapped up 2006, Erik took a couple minor roles in shows that nobody watched, but he basically hasn’t been seen or heard from since the show ended.

With the Malcolm in the Middle reboot arriving this week, Erik AKA Dewey is the only main character who is not returning. Turns out he was ‘not interested at all’, according to Jane Kaczmarek, who played his mum on the show. In fact he’s busy pursuing a Master’s degree in Victorian Literature at Harvard University.

Kaczmarek told The Guardian: “[Erik is] studying Dickens and is an incredible student. They offered him buckets of money to come back, and he just said, ‘No thank you.’”

Clearly this does not mean he can escape the paparazzi, as Sullivan was seen running errands around his native Boston not long ago and looking, well, around 20 years older…

People grow old and look different – it’s a shocker, I know. Still, it must be pretty mental for Erik Per Sullivan to suddenly have the media on his case again after not being photographed for nearly 20 years.

Frankie Muniz AKA Malcolm himself added:

“To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to. I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended.

“I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show, but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.

“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.

“But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.”

Fair play to the guy. As his on-screen mum says, Hollywood isn’t for everyone…
