League Two star Courtney Baker-Richardson was ruled out of Crewe Alexandra’s trip to Carlisle United the other night after suffering a freak injury while playing on his Xbox.

The Railwaymen’s top goalscorer, 26, has banged in seven goals since the start of the 2022/23 campaign but was left at home when Alex Morris’ men made the 150-mile trip north to Brunton Park.

As per the BBC, Baker-Richardson suffered a bizarre injury to his hip muscle in the build-up to the game. Not in training, but while he was playing Call of Duty: Warzone on his console. How?!

At least he had a great Tweet about it:

Good to see Courtney Baker-Richardson is a PS5 man, although it is a bit shocking he wasn’t playing FIFA. Then again imagine how much more embarrassing it would be if he injured himself while playing as himself in the game:

Might want to take -20 off Physicality on the stats there after this news.

In fairness to Courtney Baker-Richardson, I threw my back out taking a shepherd’s pie out of the oven last week. Then again, I’m not a pro athlete who gets paid to be in elite physical condition throughout the season. They really could’ve used him as well – the game ended in a drab 0-0 draw…

Better hope Courtney is well on the way to recovery because he was on a very hot run before this freak injury occurred. In the meantime hit him up if you can sort out any decent gaming chairs to prevent this sort of thing happening ever again.

For the Brazilian goalkeeper who managed to say a different girl’s name when thanking his girlfriend during a post-game interview, click HERE. Whoops.
