Wild article in CNN today which claims Kanye West wanted to name his 2018 album after Adolf Hitler and had an ‘obsession’ with the Nazi leader, suggesting his anti-semitic attitude goes way deeper than originally thought.

Worth noting that CNN cites several anonymous sources for the article, and so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they’ve made it all up to drag his name further through the mud. They claim one business executive who worked with Kanye said his obsession with Hitler created a ‘hostile work environment’:

“He would praise Hitler by saying how incredible it was that he was able to accumulate so much power and would talk about all the great things he and the Nazi Party achieved for the German people.”

The executive told CNN that West spoke openly about reading Mein Kampf and expressed his “admiration” for the Nazis and Hitler for their use of propaganda. I’m pretty sure Kanye once said that he’s never read a book in his life as he finds them boring, so make of that what you will.

This executive stated that people in Kanye’s inner circle were “fully aware” of his interest in Hitler. Four sources told CNN that West had originally suggested the title “Hitler” for his 2018 album that eventually released as “Ye.” They did not want to be named, citing concern for professional retribution. As for the executive, he reached a settlement with Kanye and some of his companies over workplace complaints, including harassment, and also asked not to be named out of fear of retribution from Kanye.

Meanwhile, Van Lathan Jr., the TMZ employee who confronted West during his 2018 interview where he said slavery ‘sounds like a choice’ recently claimed on a podcast that Kanye made antisemitic comments during their conversation that the outlet did not release publicly:

“I mean, I was taken aback because that type of antisemitic talk is disgusting. It’s like, I’m taken aback any time anyone does that, right? But as far as [West], I knew that that was in him because when he came to TMZ, he said that stuff and they took it out of the interview. … He said something like, ‘I love Hitler, I love Nazis.’ Something to that effect when he was there. And they took it out of the interview for whatever reason. It wasn’t my decision.”

Pretty surprising that TMZ would have Kanye saying something as wild as that on tape and not release it (think of the views!), but if this tape really does exist then maybe they should release it now that Kanye is the biggest news story out there. Obviously it’s pretty lame that the CNN quotes all come an anonymous source, but would anyone be surprised if any of that was true? Especially given the way Kanye has been behaving recently.

Not sure we’ll ever be able to listen to Kanye’s 2013 track Black Skinhead the same way ever again…
