Ipswich Town Issue Response After Fan Backlash Over Nigel Farage Stadium Visit
Bit of a PR nightmare over at Ipswich Town FC after Nigel Farage and Reform UK were allowed to use the stadium facilities for a promotional photoshoot this week.
This included photos of Farage posing at Portman Road with a personalised “Farage 10” shirt in the home dressing room and at pitchside, which he showed off on X while cracking the obligatory ‘right wing’ joke…

As you can imagine this has led to significant backlash from supporters who are suggesting the stadium now be called Deportman Road and saying this is the most embarrassing moment in the club’s history.
Ipswich Town have now issued a statement attempting to distance itself from political endorsement.
The club says: ‘Ipswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties.
‘The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party.
‘The club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community.
‘Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.’
Well, I’m not sure it matters whether Ipswich Town says it endorses any particular party or not, what matters is the public perception and so they’ve taken a massive risk by allowing Farage to have a photoshoot at their ground, and especially by gifting him a “Farage 10” shirt. How the hell did they not see the backlash coming?
Ipswich currently sit third in the Championship under Kieran McKenna and are two points off the automatic promotion places. If they win promotion at the end of the season then I’m sure all will be forgiven, by their fans at least. Best prepare for some creative new chants from opposition fans, though.
