Everyone loves a good man trapped in a weird environment vs a bloodthirsty monster/alien movie, but I’m not quite sure if that fully works when the man is Idris Elba trapped in the African scrubland facing a badass lion.

Nevertheless, this is the way that Universal Pictures have decided to go with their latest feature ‘Beast’ which sees Idris having to fight a bloodthirsty lion alongside some African guy who looks a bit like Cillian Murphy and will no doubt end up getting killed about three quarters of the way through the film. Check out the trailer and plot synopsis below:

Sometimes the rustle in the bushes actually is a monster.

Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, The Suicide Squad) stars in a pulse-pounding new thriller about a father and his two teenage daughters who find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savannah has but one apex predator.

Elba plays Dr. Nate Daniels, a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, on a long-planned trip with their daughters to a game reserve managed by Martin Battles (Sharlto Copley, Russian Doll series, Maleficent), an old family friend and wildlife biologist. But what begins as a journey of healing jolts into a fearsome fight for survival when a lion, a survivor of blood-thirsty poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them.

Yeah I suppose that looks exactly what you think a movie about Idris Elba fighting a lion would look like doesn’t it, right through from the cheery exposition at the start to the more sinister running around the bush scared bits later on. Best bit is definitely when he punches the lion in the face at the end when its on top of him. Don’t mess with Idris Elba hey! The movie is out over here on August 26th if you fancy destroying your brain cells a bit more.

For more of the same, check out when Idris Elba said he wants the world to quarantine for one week every year to remember Coronavirus. No thanks.
