Ian Huntley ‘Fighting For His Life’ In Hospital After Being Attacked In Prison

Soham child killer Ian Huntley is reportedly “fighting for his life” after being attacked at HMP Frankland this morning (Thursday).

Huntley, 52, was ‘severely’ wounded by a fellow prisoner at the high-security prison, where he is serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

According to Metro, Huntley was bludgeoned with a metal pole and found in a pool of blood in the prison workshop.

A source said he was taken to hospital ‘in a terrible state’ and his condition is ‘touch and go’.

The source told The Sun: ‘It was absolute chaos. I’m amazed someone was able to get anywhere near him because he is usually really closely protected.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: ‘A prisoner is receiving treatment after an incident at HMP Frankland on Thursday morning.

‘It would be inappropriate to comment further while police investigate.’

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: ‘Police were alerted to an assault which had taken place within HMP Frankland in Durham this morning.

‘A male prisoner suffered serious injuries during the incident and was transported to hospital.

‘A police investigation is now under way into the circumstances of the incident and detectives are liaising with staff at the prison.’

The Soham murders remains one of the most high-profile crime cases in UK history, with Huntley – a former school caretaker – luring the girls into his home, likely under the pretense of seeing his partner Maxine Carr who was a teaching assistant at their school, and murdering them soon after.

One of the biggest manhunts ever in the UK was then launched, with Huntley even giving a news interview as an “eye-witness” to Channel 5:

Huntley and partner Maxine Carr eventually went on trial together at the Old Bailey, with Carr turning on Huntley midway through, telling the court she would not be ‘blamed for what that thing has done’.

Huntley was jailed for life with a minimum term of 40 years, meaning he will not be eligible for parole until 2042 at the earliest.

As you might imagine, Huntley isn’t the most popular figure at his prison and has been subjected to a number of assaults throughout his time there.

In 2005, fellow murderer Mark Hobson threw boiling water over him, and in 2010, armed robber Damien Fowkes slashed his throat.

Huntley was left with a ‘severe gaping cut to the left side of his neck’ requiring 21 stitches.

Whatever he’s been through in there, nothing will compare to the unimaginable terror he subjected Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman to, and that includes whatever injuries he’s suffered today that have left him fighting for his life.

RIP Ian Huntley incoming? It’s still early in the day, let’s see what the coming hours bring…
