I never thought we’d ever see a WWE-style gimmick match in the UFC, but it looks like it may soon become a reality with Ian Machado Garry challenging Colby Covington to an ‘I Quit’ match, which from the sounds of it, would work in the same way as the classic WWE ‘Loser Leaves Town’ match where a wrestler is forced to leave the promotion if they lose.

“You’ll do as you’re told” – jeez, he’s never beating the Conor McGregor wannabe allegations coming out with stuff like that, is he? Although it was probably less cringe than the “my wife definitely ain’t no trophy” line.

For some background: Ian Garry initially called Colby Covington out at UFC 298, with Colby finally responding last week in the form of three demands he requires in order to accept the fight:

1. Ian Garry and his wife, Layla, must re-enable their comments on Instagram – and if he disables them before the fight, he surrenders his entire purse to Covington.

2. Ian’s wife Layla must “get down on her hands and knees” and convince Colby to take the fight in 60 seconds or less.

3. If Colby wins, Ian’s wife Layla must agree to be in one of his Instagram ads.

So obviously Ian Garry has had a think about all that and decided against it, instead opting to challenge Colby Covington to an ‘I Quit’ match where the loser leaves the UFC for good. I’m pretty sure there’s no way Dana White or any athletics commission is going to agree with that, given it’s a tad bit more complicated than scripting a WWE match, but man it would be awesome it they could make it happen. In fact, why not bring in more gimmick matches to UFC? A No DQ fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler where they can use tables and ladders and chairs on each other? A Royal Rumble where you have to lob your opponent over the Octagon? Yeah OK we’d probably be there all day with the latter, but we’re just throwing out ideas here.

Either way, let’s hope this Colby Covington v Ian Garry fight gets booked because it may just have the potential to contain the cringiest build-up in UFC fight history featuring the two cringiest guys currently on the roster. Make it happen.
