Christian Bale is probably recognised as one of the greatest actors of his generation at this point, having carved out a two decade long career featuring some of the most iconic roles ever, so it’s no surprise that people are getting excited about his new move that he’s teamed up with Netflix to make.

‘The Pale Blue Eye’ is written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass, Antlers) and features an all star cast including Harry Melling, Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Harry Lawtey, Toby Jones, and Robert Duvall. Bale plays a grizzled veteran detective in the 1830s investigating a series of horrific murders alongside a young cadet who will eventually go on to become Edgar Allen Poe. What a plot twist already!

Take a look at the eerie trailer below:

West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet.

Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe.

Yeah, like a lot of trailers these days you don’t really get too much of an idea about what’s going to happen in the movie, but the atmosphere and mood of the piece is certainly there and it looks like it’s going to be suitably scary and gothic and probably a pretty intense experience. It’s released in selected cinemas in December then hitting Netflix on January 6th, which is one of those weekends where nobody does anything so pretty much the perfect time for it to arrive. Let’s go.

For more of the same, check out Christian Bale saying that every actor his age owes their career to Leonardo DiCaprio. Actually makes sense when you think about it.
