Greta Thunberg Warns 40°C Heatwave About To Hit UK ‘Is Only The Beginning’
Greta Thunberg has hit out at UK leadership for having “their heads completely buried in the sand” over the climate crisis as a 40°C heatwave grips the country.
Greta, 23, warns that the scorching temperatures are “only the beginning” of escalating climate consequences. Which makes it sound like she’s the one doing it, but she’s actually just calling for immediate action to be taken.
She told Metro: ‘This is what experts have been warning about for decades.
‘We know that the climate crisis is here and now, and not a faraway threat in the future, and those suffering the most are the ones who have contributed the least to cause it.
‘This is unfortunately only the beginning.’

The heatwave is set to last until at least Thursday after the Met Office issued a four-day extreme heat warning across England and Wales.
The record for the hottest ever May was broken last month, after parts of London hit 34.8°C, and it looks like we could have another record-breaker on our hands this week, with the hottest ever June currently at 35.6°C, set way back in 1976 in Southampton.
Greta continued: ‘What is most concerning about this is not only that we continuously shatter heat records and destabilise the entire biosphere way faster than models have been predicting, but that it is not treated as the existential crisis it is in media and politics.
‘The UKs responsibility for the climate crisis cannot be overstated, still its leaders continue acting as if there was no tomorrow.’
Thunberg went on to claim that British leaders have their ‘heads completely buried in the sand with pockets lined up with dirty money’.

Now obviously this is a contentious topic as a lot of people insist there’s no such thing as a climate crisis because summers are hot and winters are cold and that’s the way it’s always been. Others argue that summers are hotter and winters are milder and this should be suggestive of the issue in itself, even without any science backing it up.
Either way, the UK’s contribution to world emissions is very small in the grand scheme of things, so I’m not sure why Greta is picking on us for? I guess we can always have less pollution and cleaner air to breathe, to be fair.
