An alleged gang member with Down syndrome has been charged with the brutal murders of two men just 10 days apart in Chicago, according to the NY Post.

Nicholas ‘Smush’ Samudio, reputedly a member of the infamous Latin Kings, is charged with the fatal road-rage shooting of Humberto Marin-Garcia (in front of the victim’s pregnant wife, no less) and the murder of Tomas Villa, which cops believe was a case of mistaken identity.

Samudio – who has been diagnosed with the genetic disorder, according to his lawyer — was arrested following a police chase in a stolen car after the second shooting.

He was already well known to Chicago police and has been suspected of killing a person before. Will be interesting to see how his condition influences sentencing, as I’m sure his lawyer will try to argue that he doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand the consequences of his actions, and how easy it would’ve been for other criminals to take advantage and manipulate him into doing their dirty work.

Naturally, the internet being what it is, Twitter’s been having a field day with the fact that this ruthless killer happens to have Down syndrome:

That’s Twitter for you. RIP to the victims and let’s hope that justice is served, whatever that means in a case as unique as this one.
