‘Free Palestine’ Activist Who Confronted Matt Lucas At London Tube Station Loses His Job

Remember the guy who confronted Matt Lucas on the London underground and started yelling ‘Free Palestine’ at him and asking if he had a problem with Palestinians? Here’s a reminder:

Well, here’s an update: Thomas Abdullah Bourne, who goes by the name “White British Muslim” online, has told PoliticsJOE that he lost his job over the incident.

Muslim convert Bourne, 39, told the publication: ‘I was going up the escalator and looked to my side and saw someone giving me an uncomfortable even hostile look and I realised it was Matt Lucas.

‘My instant reaction – as anyone’s would be who was going to confront someone – was to pull out my camera phone and shout “Free Palestine! Free Palestine!”

‘As a result of that video and a subsequent Daily Mail article I actually lost my job.’

Which is an unsurprising outcome, especially after Jewish organisations like the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) got involved. The group condemned the incident as “racist intimidation,” which I guess makes sense as the only reason he was harassing Matt Lucas is because he’s Jewish.

Looking into it, it doesn’t actually seem like Matt Lucas has ever commented on the situation in Gaza at all. Although, to be fair – he is Jewish, has visited Israel regularly for decades, and signed an open letter calling for the release of hostages from Hamas. So I think we can make an educated guess as to where he stands on the matter.

Still, I’m not sure that warrants the guy being harassed in public. It’s not like having a go at Matt Lucas is going to change anything about the situation, is it? Anyway, I’m sure Thomas regrets it now that he’s lost his job. You live and you learn.
