Former Premier League Referee David Coote Avoids Prison Over Sexual Video Of Schoolboy
Disgraced former Premier League referee David Coote, who was sacked by the PGMOL in 2024 after a video of him doing cocaine and calling Jurgen Klopp a c*** went viral, has managed to avoid prison after he was found to have a sexual video of a 15-year-old boy in school uniform on his laptop.
At Nottingham Crown Court today (Jan 8), Coote was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years. He has also been given a sexual harm prevention order lasting 10 years.
Coote, 43, had been charged with making a Category A video – which is the worst kind. It means the video ‘contains images involving penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with a child, animal or sadism’.

Note – “making” a video in the legal sense can be anything from actually videoing it to opening an attachment on WhatsApp with it in there. The term “making” covers distribution or possession as well as creation of the video, so even downloading it onto his device means he’s “made” another copy.
Coote previously denied the charge, but later changed his plea to guilty.
And so he’s managed to get away with it – as long he behaves himself for the next two years while he’s on a suspended sentence. His career as a top level football official is surely dead and buried, though.
Initially when Coote was sacked for the coked-up viral video of him slagging off Jurgen Klopp, he gave an interview in which revealed he was gay, has self-esteem issues, was devastated about being sacked, and basically just trying to get everyone to feel sorry for him:
It actually worked! People did feel sorry for David Coote and urged the media and football world to get off his back and let him get on with his life following a massive public humiliation and sacking.
It became a little harder to feel sorry for him when he eventually admitted to being a nonce. VAR can’t help you in that situation.
