New Malmo forward Mohamed Buya Turay missed his own wedding day in order to finalise his move to the club, reports Swedish outlet Afton Bladet.

Malmo were so keen for the 27-year-old to link up with the squad as soon as possible they made him skip his wedding, but not to worry, he made sure bride Suad Baydoun wasn’t on her own… by sending his brother to act as a stand-in groom.

Turay confessed the situation in an interview with the outlet:

“We got married on July 21 in Sierra Leone.

But I wasn’t there because Malmo asked me to come here earlier.

We took the pictures in advance. So it looks like I was there but I wasn’t. My brother had to represent me at the wedding itself.”

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Turay and his bride-to-be had this conversation. Clearly she was understanding enough to go through with the wedding with her groom’s brother pretending to be him, but still, what if it all went wrong? Did the priest say ‘you may now kiss the bride’? And if so, did she smooch her brother-in-law at the altar? Maybe she’s just thrilled enough to have a footballer husband on a very good salary. Ditto to his brother having a footballer sibling in the Swedish league.

In any case, I bet there’s loads of people out there who wish they missed their wedding day. Like the bride who caught her man banging one of the bridesmaids moments before they made their vows. Yikes.
