3. DEAN WINDASS 29TH NOVEMBER 2008 STOKE V HULL

Dean Windass

For some time when they first came to the Premiership under Tony Pulis, Stoke City’s most dangerous weapon in their arsenal was the long throw from Rory Delap that they would use regularly in every match and would almost inexplicably lead to goals 9 out of 10 times. I still don’t get why it caused so much confusion, but nevertheless it did and was probably more feared than RVP’s left foot for a time.

Hull were travelling to the Britannia in 2008 and manager Phil Brown had a plan to thwart the long throw. Dean Windass wasn’t named in the starting line up for this match but Brown assured him he still had a big part to play in his plans, as he instructed him to warm up in front of Rory Delap when he was getting ready to take one of his long throws in order to put him off. Windass took to the job at hand with aplomb and probably performed the most elaborate warm up of his career (have you seen how much of a fatass he is, no way he was doing leg workouts like that all the time) in front of Delap which you can see below.

Unfortunately for Windass this prompted referee Keith Stroud to book him for ungentlemanly conduct, even though he wasn’t on the pitch.
