Sports fans make an obvious fanbase when it comes to sports movies. However, not every person in the world is a fan of sports. Just like some people watch sports just for the fun of it all and others do it to stay on top NFL lines, some sports fans simply enjoy watching a fun movie that doesn’t necessarily have to be solely focused on sports. So, it can sometimes get a bit difficult to find a movie that both sports fans and the ones that are not can equally enjoy.

With that in mind, here are some of the best sports movies out there anyone can enjoy – no matter if they are sports fans or not.

Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook is an excellent choice of a movie for all the romantics out there. Even though this romance drama is really unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, it is still filled with plenty of touching, sad and sometimes even chaotic moments.

As Dolores Solatano discharges her son, Pat Jr. from a mental institution, against medical advice and behind her husband’s back, the story starts to unravel. Soon, we learn that Pat Jr. was institutionalized because he beat up his wife’s lover, after which he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Over the course of the movie, Pat Jr. hopes to smooth things out with his (ex) wife, Nikki, and meets a troubled, yet quirky widow Tiffany Maxwell.

In their fragile mental states, Tiffany and Pat Jr. begin a love-hate friendship that’s mostly based on them helping each other out to reach their respective goals. However, Pat Jr.’s Philadelphia Eagles obsessed father is not really being supportive, as he is more focused on his favorite team winning the big upcoming game. Placing numerous bets on the game outcome, Pat senior almost entirely compromises his son’s delicate state, but as in any other romance comedy drama, things eventually work out just fine for everyone involved.

The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard is arguably one of the best movies featuring Adam Sandler. In this comedy movie, Sandler plays the role of an ex revered football superstar that ends up in jail due to a drunk driving incident. Soon after arriving at the jail, Paul (Sandler) learns that the jail warden specifically requested Paul to be put in his institution. The warden then tasks Paul to assemble a team of convicts that will measure their skills against the guards in a game of football.

As the warden and the guards are preparing for an easy win, they will be entirely caught off-guard (no pun intended) by the other team. With Paul as the main driving force behind the newly-assembled them, the outcome of the game won’t feel as certain as the guards originally thought.

Space Jam

Space Jam is probably one of the most-adored movies in the world. This semi-animated adventure has managed to attract quite a sizeable audience ever since it first appeared on the screen. Featuring some of our favorite cartoon characters, such as Bugs and Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck and Taz, as well as the basketball legend Michael Jordan, this movie truly offers some innocent fun.

Chances are you’ve already seen this title at least once in your life. But if you haven’t – for whatever reason – make sure you add it to your list. Nowadays, there’s also a remake available, but as all the fans will agree, the original is always better.

Rollerball

For any action-packed thriller fans out there, Rollerball will be a real treat. The movie was made back in 2002, with the action set in the year 2018. Of course, the world looks entirely different than it really did back in 2018, but that’s what gives this movie its special vibe. In Rollerball, there is no more crime and the world is now being controlled by various corporations. Rollerball is currently the favorite recreational sport, where teams compete against each other in a game that’s extremely violent. Similar to roller derby, rollerball also involves motorbikes, rollerblades and hockey sticks, but some participants find ways to make the game even more violent by resorting to some not-so-legal moves.

As you can see, sports movies don’t really need to be entirely focused on the sport to make them super interesting to watch. So, the next time you don’t really know which movie to watch, consider checking some of these out.
