EuroMillions Winner Who Saved Police Officer’s Life Days Before Winning Jackpot Dies In ‘Hit And Run’
A EuroMillions winner who saved a police officer’s life on a bus days before winning the jackpot has died after being knocked off his bike in ‘hit and run’.
Anthony Canty, 39, from Essex, gave the officer CPR after he had a heart attack in April 2020.
A month later, the dad-of-two bagged £1 million on the EuroMillions and must have thought it was some kind of cosmic reward for being such a legend.
Tragically however, Anthony has now died after being knocked off his bike while cycling in Tiptree, Essex, at around 6.30am on May 21.
Anthony was rushed to hospital but died four days later.

An 18-year-old man who fled the scene has since been arrested and remains under investigation. He was reportedly under the influence of drink and drugs at the time.
A local told The Sun that the car hit Anthony from behind and a passerby gave him CPR until an ambulance arrived, but unfortunately could not do for Anthony what he did for that police officer years ago.
The local said: ‘It shouldn’t happen to anyone, but he was a lovely, family man. It’s very sad. He was well known around here, he grew up around this area.’
One friend described Anthony as ‘one of the nicest, genuine and true gents I have ever had the pleasure of knowing’.
The police officer whose life Anthony saved in 2020 had told him after recovering: ‘Good karma happens to good people.’

Just so unbelievably sad and ironic. He does look and sound like an absolute stand-up guy, which makes a change from the Lotto winners we usually blog about. Killed by the recklessness of some drunken 18-year-old who felt so little remorse and accountability that he fled the scene and thought they could get away with it.
On the plus side, at least Anthony got a good 6 years to enjoy the winnings with his family, and they will hopefully be taken care of even in his absence, not that this will feel like much of a consolation.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: ‘Detectives continuing to investigate a serious collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle in Tiptree can confirm a man has sadly since died in hospital.
‘Officers would still particularly like to hear from anyone who saw or has footage of a black Ford KA being driven in the area around the time of the collision that morning.
