Elementary School Teacher Mocks Charlie Kirk Assassination At ‘No Kings’ Protest

One of the most alarming aspects of the Charlie Kirk assassination was how many people seemed to be delighting in his death, including – it seems – elementary school teachers who are at least partly responsible for children growing up to be well-adjusted adults.

Lucy Martinez, a teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Chicago, put a finger to her neck and pretended to pull a trigger when a man driving by in a pickup truck waved a flag calling the late podcaster a “hero”. Watch below:

Kirk, of course, was killed after being shot in the neck while speaking at Utah State University last month, and Martinez’s gesture is a clear reference to that.

It didn’t take long for Martinez to be identified after the footage went viral, and people were stunned to learn that she was an elementary school teacher (although perhaps it’s not too surprising at this point). There are calls for Martinez to be sacked, but there’s nothing out there indicating that has happened yet.

Even still, the backlash against Nathan Hale Elementary School has been so great that they’ve literally deleted their entire website and social media handles:

Chicago Public Schools said it “remains committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming, safe and inclusive teaching and learning environment, free from harassment, bias, or harm of any kind.”

“While CPS does not comment on specific personnel matters the District follows a consistent process when allegations of misconduct are reported. Employees found to have violated Board policy are subject to disciplinary action.”

It remains to be seen whether Martinez gets the sack, but I imagine any student who did the same thing would be expelled? Well, perhaps not in this particular school.

Either way, a terrible look for teachers in general in a day and age where they’re already under loads of scrutiny, especially in the US where it seems political ideology has fried everyone’s brains. Maybe Martinez will she’ll come out and apologise or claim it was a misunderstanding or that the people filming did something provocative to make her react in that way? Or maybe she’ll be fired by the time you read this. I’m banking on the former.
