This again looks like some kind of torture device, but these rollers weren’t used to cause pain to whoever was sitting in the chair – they were actually designed to roll up and down the user’s legs in an attempt to pound the fat off them. Not sure if that one worked.

This photo was from the 1940s and was another variation on the heat mask idea, only with more of an Eyes Wide Shut vibe this time.

This isn’t actually someone dressed up as a ghost but was in fact how people dealt with the problem of sun burn before sun tan lotion was invented – they would simply wear a costume that covered all of their skin so they wouldn’t get burnt. You might have looked like a twat but at least you didn’t end up burnt. Sunglasses came installed with the costume too which is pretty useful.

If you wanted curly hair back in the 40s then you would have to achieve it like this. Was it worth it? Probably.

It’s still well believed that putting fruit on your face will help with your skin and wrinkles, but this just looks completely stupid. She probably looked a lot better than everyone else her age at the time though.
