‘Devastated’ Eddie Hearn Hits Out At Conor Benn After Boxer Dumps Him For Dana White

Huge boxing news today as Eddie Hearn’s golden boy Conor Benn (24-1) has decided to end their 10-year partnership to sign a lucrative one-fight, eight-figure deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.

Given Eddie and Dana have been beefing recently, this comes as a massive betrayal for Hearn, who has now seen a supposedly loyal soldier join a rival company.

Hearn admitted he was “shocked” and blamed himself for trusting Conor Benn and ‘misjudging his character’:

“I blame myself because I forgot it was boxing and I was like — I just felt that the loyalty that we’ve shown would never ever put us in this position and I just felt that I never really needed to push Conor Benn to sign a new contract previously and I probably could’ve got him to sign a new contract previously. I blame myself. I made a mistake. I misjudged the character.

“When I received the email from his lawyer, I texted him and said I think we should have a call, for everything I have done for you, I deserve a call, and [Conor Benn] said no.”

While Benn expressed gratitude to Matchroom Boxing for their support through “tough times,” he described the Zuffa offer as an “opportunity I simply couldn’t refuse” for “legacy fights”.

Tough times for Eddie Hearn. Of course, it’s only a one-match deal with Zuffa (to the tune of over £10,000,000 – which I’m sure the UFC roster won’t be happy about) so theoretically Conor Benn will be free to re-sign with Eddie after that fight is over.

From the sounds of it though, that ain’t going to happen. Hearn has characterised the situation as the “biggest betrayal” he has experienced in boxing and is predicting a “long war” with Dana White. At least he’s still got Anthony Joshua, eh?
