Dad High On Ketamine Abandons Son, 6, And Tells Police: ‘It’s Your Problem Now’

A dad from Swaffham, Norfolk, has lost custody of his son after leaving the six-year-old at home while he was high on ketamine.

Neighbors raised the alarm after witnessing the man leave his home with friends, knowing the young lad was at home alone.

The man actually did return by himself 20 minutes later, yelling at someone over the phone, before going inside and coming back out, where he entered a K-hole and stood frozen outside the home.

At that point, police arrived and saw the dad stood there with glazed eyes and white powder around his right nostril.

They arrested him and found a small bit of ketamine on him, before asking if anyone else was available to care for the child.

The man replied: “I don’t know, it’s your problem now.”

Father of the year right there!

The man pleaded guilty to abandoning a child and possession of a Class B drug at Lynn Magistrates’ Court, and the case was adjourned to allow a pre-sentence report to be carried out.

Following the incident, the child spent approximately one week in care before being returned to the father under strict supervision.

In mitigation, solicitor Kate D’Aloia said that the defendant had been sober for 200 days after the incident. However, he had relapsed due to the stress of court proceedings. D’oh.

She added that he had cut down on drinking to around eight beers over a weekend, and no longer has custody of the child, which is a relief.

As part of his community order, he will need to complete 20 rehabilitation activity days and will be subject to 90 days of alcohol monitoring.

He will also need to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £50 in court costs, which will be deducted from his benefits (shocker) at a rate of £5 per week.
