Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande Get Zero Oscar Nominations After ‘Creeping Out’ Voters
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have been one of the weirdest duos on the scene ever since they linked up for ‘Wicked’ back in 2024, and then again for the sequel ‘Wicked: For Good’ which came out last year.
Anytime these two are on camera together, they’re constantly and intensely touching each other, clutching hands, stroking each other, and “checking in” to make sure the other is OK. It’s really bizarre and you’re inclined to think they’re shagging behind the scenes – which is fine – but even then it’s still OTT and weird behaviour.

Apparently their peers aren’t too keen on their BFF act either because when the Oscar 2026 nominations were read out – ‘Wicked: For Good’ received zero nominations. Which is pretty shocking for a film starring media darling Ariana Grande and a bald, bisexual, vegan POC.
Following the announcement, several anonymous Academy members explained why the actresses and the film were overlooked:
One voter claimed the duo’s Wicked press tour “creeped a lot of people out”. Their intense on-screen chemistry and overly affectionate off-screen behavior were described by voters as “cosplaying” and a major “turnoff”.
Voters found the actresses’ relationship “intense and bizarre,” specifically citing Erivo’s “constant guardianship” of Grande. One voter admitted the snub was partially intended to avoid another highly emotional reunion on the awards stage.
Another voter claimed the pair “sucked the air out of any red carpet they were on,” and that Academy members did not want to repeat the experience.
It’s worth noting that the film itself wasn’t that great either, so I’m sure that also played a part. Still, they didn’t even get a nomination for Costume Design which that movie was big on. In contrast, the original received 10 nominations and two wins in 2025.
Goes to show that it’s not just movie fans that are creeped out by these two and the relationship they portray on camera. Would love to get a psychoanalyst’s deep dive on them. Something must be going on there.
