Did anyone here know that Conor McGregor’s mum is black? Well either that or she was wearing ‘blackface’ for Halloween, and Conor McGregor brainlessly shared it on social media. Judging by reaction to the photos online, it’s probably the latter.

McGregor and his sister Erin both shared photos of mum Margaret loving the Halloween vibes at his Black Forge Inn pub in Dublin:

The comments under Conor’s IG post are filled with people calling out Maggie’s blackface, but according to Conor’s representatives, it wasn’t blackface at all, but rather ‘spiders’ painted on her face. Here’s what they told the Daily Star:

“The McGregor family loves Halloween. Mrs McGregor had spiders painted on her face since her costume was a ghoul risen from the grave.

Any other interpretation was just wrong and truly unfortunate.”

Unfortunate indeed. You’d think McGregor would be more media savvy at this point than to share a photo of his mum that could be ‘misconstrued’ as wearing blackface, but then again this is a guy who KO’s pensioners in pubs so I don’t think good PR is something he puts too much thought into.

I thought maybe Conor was trying to distract people from his own stolen valour costume, but it turns out he’s dressed as Frank Abagnale; Leo DiCaprio’s character in Catch Me If You Can. Great movie! Anyway, maybe Maggie McGregor can wear blackface again next year and tell everyone she’s Papa Shango. It’s never Halloween without some costume controversy on the blogs is it?

For example, the time Pamela Anderson was accused of cultural appropriation over her NSFW Halloween costume. Sigh…
