Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has come under fire after calling a female reporter a ‘good girl’ in a tense interview in which he refused to elaborate on a previous comment he had made.

Rodgers’s Celtic haven’t been in the best form recently, but they managed to secure a scrappy 3-1 win at Motherwell on Sunday with two very late goals. Despite the win, Brendan Rodgers was in a foul mood when being interviewed by BBC Radio Scotland’s Jane Lewis after the game, abruptly cutting her off after a tetchy exchange and saying ‘Okay? Done. Good girl. Well done.’

Oh dear. Of course, Brendan Rodgers calling a female reporter a ‘good girl’ like she’s a Golden Retriever has not gone down well with the public, and there are now calls by the Scottish Feminist Network for the former Liverpool boss to apologise. Campaigners at For Women Scotland were also unhappy with the exchange, saying: ‘It’s depressing that casual sexism is still embedded in sport.’

He also weirdly refused to answer two fairly simple questions treating them like they were somehow ‘gotcha’ trick questions.

In fairness to Brendan Rodgers, he was clearly in a rotten mood to begin with, but it’s just never a good look to patronise female reporters like this, especially in the world of football where sexism is already a hot topic. Bad boy, Brendan Rodgers!

One thing’s for sure – Joey Barton’s loving it…
