Biohacker Bryan Johnson Reveals He Has Incurable Disease: ‘My Stomach Is Eating Itself’

Sad news for the man who’s dedicated his entire life and millions of dollars to trying to live forever – he’s been diagnosed with Autoimmune Gastritis.

Bryan Johnson, 48, is a multi-millionaire biohacker who sold his business, Braintree Venmo, to PayPal for $800 million (then £492 million) in 2013, and has since then spent his days attempting to reverse-age and become immortal.

Johnson has a team of 30 doctors looking after him, is on a vegan diet, takes 111 pills a day, takes human growth hormones, undergoes monthly colonoscopies and MRI’s, and spends $2 million a year on the whole process.

Somehow though, all those doctors and tests missed the thing that was eating him from inside.

Autoimmune Gastritis is a chronic condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy, acid-producing cells in the stomach lining.

It affects just 2% to 5% of people and is incredibly difficult to detect in its early stages, so I guess we can’t we can’t be too mad at Johnson’s team for missing it initially.

At the same time, you have to think that if any of us analysed our bodies to the degree that Bryan Johnson does every day, we would find plenty of things that aren’t up to par. We’re probably all dying from a handful of different things all the time, but only one of those things will kill us in the end.

I’m sure Bryan Johnson will live a long and fruitful life regardless, but it just goes to show that all the money and effort in the world won’t necessarily keep you in tip top condition.

In any case, fair play to the guy for exposing himself to the world in this way, taking major risks and making huge investments to advance the human lifespan. People like to troll him and take the p1ss, but at the end of the day, the medical world is probably learning a lot from his journey.
