Not a great week for people named ‘Luke’ on reality TV shows. First, we had ‘Below Deck’ crew member Luke Jones sacked after crawling into bed with his drunk and unconscious co-star, and now Big Brother contestant Luke Valentine has been given the boot for dropping the N-bomb during a livestream.

Luke was talking to a bunch of other housemates when he said “we were in the cheeseroom, n****,” before correcting it to “dude”. The guy knew he was screwed as soon as he said it:

Whoops. The way that just casually slipped out really makes you wonder whether he could have possibly used that word before in his life. Just goes to show, when you sign up to be a contestant on a reality TV show like Big Brother, you absolutely cannot allow yourself to forget the fact that there are cameras watching you 24/7 and recording your every word. Not ideal if you’re prone to a little N-word slippage, hard R or not.

In fairness, the one black guy who was present (laying in the bed) later said he “didn’t give a f*ck” that Luke used the N-word, but rules are rules and Big Brother did what they had to do, releasing the following statement earlier:

Luke violated the Big Brother code of conduct and there is zero tolerance in the house for using a racial slur. He has been removed from the house.

So that’s that then. Let this be a lesson to the contestants of Big Brother UK when the show returns to ITV2 in October 2023.
