American Dad Faced Lynching In Colombia After Heroics On Balcony Were Mistaken For Child Abuse
An American man in Bogotá, Colombia, was nearly attacked by a mob after neighbours mistook his life-saving actions for child abuse.
The man had actually taken his adopted 7-year-old son out to the balcony because the boy was choking on food.
There, he attempted the Heimlich manoeuvre, but from a distance, it looked like he was doing… something else:

When cops busted into his apartment, they found three young children, arrested him, and took the kids to a medical center…
Yes indeed, bystanders spotted the man with the child on the balcony and thought he was bxmming the lad, rather than saving his life.
A massive crowd gathered and the man had to be shielded inside his apartment by the Colombian National Police to prevent a lynching.
Officers detained the 36-year-old Texas native and put his three children (aged 4, 7, and 15) into child protection service while the investigation was carried out, eventually concluding that he was innocent.
The country’s president Gustavo Petro confirmed: ‘He actually took the child out to the balcony because the little boy was choking after swallowing his food wrong. The images misled the public, who rushed en masse to defend the child.
‘In doing so, we have unfortunately traumatised the children involved. If this version of events is confirmed by the investigation, the justice system must fully restore this man’s rights as a human being.’
In fairness to the good people of Colombia, child trafficking and sex tourism is a bit of an issue out there so you can’t really blame them for thinking the worst when they saw this man seemingly humping a young boy on his balcony.
At the same time, I doubt many abusers would do something like that on a balcony for all to see, so it’s just massively unfortunate for this man to be mistook for a child abuser when he was literally trying to save a child’s life.
He’s lucky that the police got to him before the mob did, that’s for sure. Can you imagine if he had gotten lynched over this? In front of his kids, no less? Absolutely wild.
