Police Officer Punched In The Face In Manchester Airport Brawl Calls Attacker A ‘Coward’ In Court

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz has been jailed for 3 years and 6 months for assaulting two female officers at Manchester Airport last year, as they attempted to arrest him in the Terminal 2 car park after he had headbutted a guy at Starbucks.

Here’s a reminder of the incident:

Amaaz told Liverpool Crown Court that he was acting in self-defence and feared he would be “battered” to death by the police, and even claimed he didn’t realise he was punching women.

Well, this week, he’s been handed 3.5 years in prison, and at the sentencing, PC Lydia Ward (now promoted to Sergeant) read a victim impact statement directly to Amaaz, branding his actions “cowardly” and accusing him of “playing the victim” when the footage went viral.

Addressing Amaaz directly, she said: ‘You changed my face.

‘You chose to attack a female. You knocked me to the ground with one punch, with so much force you broke my nose.

‘How would you feel if a male did that to your mother? How would you feel if it was your mother standing here today explaining how she was violently assaulted by a male?

‘What you did was cowardly.’

She added: ‘What angers me is that afterwards, when only part of the footage was out in the public, you played the victim.

‘You are not a victim. I am the one who was injured, not you. You had the whole world listening to you, and you showed no remorse. Not one ounce.

‘You allowed the public to feel sorry for you. You made out like we had done something wrong when all we were doing was our job.’

She wrapped it up by saying: ‘I want you to know I am not weak. No matter how this has affected me or impacted on my life, I will not allow you to see me as weak.

‘You used me as a punch bag, but I will get back up, and I will show you how strong I am.’

Meanwhile, the other policewoman who was repeatedly hit during the incident, PC Cook, told the court that she’s put her dreams of becoming a close protection officer on hold, leaving her ‘broken’.

Given what a high-profile and controversial case this was, 3 years and 6 months actually feels rather light. If he had done the same thing to police officers in many other countries, pretty sure he’d be in a body bag right now.

Amaaz’s brother, Muhammad Amaad, was cleared of assault against the male firearms officer, PC Zachary Marsden.

Onwards and upwards for PC Ward, and here’s hoping PC Cook feels better soon.
