‘Married At First Sight’ Star Says Producers Cast Men With Criminal Records And Histories Of Domestic Violence
Channel 4 has wiped all seasons of Married at First Sight UK from its streaming service and also put the new season on hold following a major BBC investigation into allegations of rape and sexual misconduct.
Now, a star on the Aussie version of MAFS is claiming that producers deliberately cast grooms who had criminal records and histories of domestic violence, and that the brides became victims of domestic abuse.

Jacqui Burfoot, 31, says: I know for a fact that they cast outgoing, outrageous individuals who are going to cause drama.
‘There’s a tendency to cast men in particular with domestic violence backgrounds, even like histories of criminal records and things like that.
‘It is quite alarming when you’re married to a stranger, when you find out that a lot of these men are actually really dangerous or do have propensity to commit acts of domestic violence and things like that.
‘Now in my season in particular, this did happen and there were men cast with criminal records and histories of domestic violence. There were women that became victims too. These behaviours, a lot of it never went to air because it’s not suitable for primetime TV.’
Wild if true, and does not bode well for the future of the show both locally and internationally.
MAFS UK has already lost a major sponsor in TUI and the Metropolitan Police have actively approached Channel 4 and production staff around the allegations made by past contestants on the show…
First Bride (Anonymous): Claims her on-screen husband raped her after telling her, “You can’t say no, you’re my wife”. She alleges he also threatened her with an acid attack if she exposed the abuse. She is actively pursuing legal action against the production company, CPL.
Second Bride (Anonymous): Alleges she was raped by her on-screen partner during filming. She raised the issue directly with Channel 4 and CPL before her episodes aired, yet the broadcaster proceeded to stream the episodes anyway.
Third Bride (Shona Manderson): The only contestant to waive her anonymity. She states her on-screen partner, Bradley Skelly, non-consensually ejaculated inside her, which subsequently led to her undergoing an abortion.
The new series of MAFS UK has already been filmed but is now on hold while investigations are ongoing. Very possible it may never see the light of day.
