Wetherspoons Responds After Bar Manager ‘Refuses’ To Serve Reform Supporters
A Wetherspoon in Essex is catching some flak after a video showed a manager refusing to serve Reform UK supporters.
The man filming says: ‘I can’t have a drink. Because you’re deciding that?’
The Braintree Wetherspoon manager replies: ‘I’ve decided, yes.’
Another man asks: ‘So you’re refusing to serve Reform supporters?’, which the man behind the bar confirms.

The footage went viral, but as usual, it turns out that there’s more to the story. According to Wetherspoons themselves, Reform supporters and even leaders regularly drink at their pubs, it’s just on this occasion, the group had violated parking rules on the grounds which is the reason the bar manager refused to serve them.
A Wetherspoons spokesperson said: ‘Wetherspoon welcomes supporters of all political parties. In fact, the leaders of Reform have regularly used our pubs in Clacton and Skegness.
‘Politics can obviously raise strong emotions, and we have asked all parties to use our pubs on a social basis, rather than a political one, to maintain good order and comply with licensing obligations.
‘In this case, enthusiastic Reform supporters were filming outside the pub and parked their bus in the pub’s loading bay. As indicated, Reform supporters and other political supporters are welcome.’
So – parking in a way that blocks the functioning of the pub and filming without permission. Seems like it could be a valid enough reason to refuse service on this occasion. Other patrons on the day also report the group using megaphones to spout politics, which I guess is what the spokesperson is referring to in their second point.
But still, everyone knows that you never let context get in the way of feeding your victim complex.
In any case, I’m sure they’ll be back – cheapest beer in town!
