Influencer, 23, Who Tried To Smuggle £150,000 Of Cannabis Into Britain From Thailand Is Jailed

Historically if you’re a young, attractive female who’s been caught smuggling copious amounts of narcotics into Britain, you’ve got a decent chance of being let off with a slap on the wrist.

Unfortunately for influencer Ellie Crampsie, it hasn’t quite worked out that way as she’s just been jailed for 16 months after attempting to smuggle cannabis worth £150,000 from Thailand into Edinburgh Airport.

Ellie, 23, of Broomhouse, Glasgow, was busted after Border Force caught her with 17.7kg of the drug at customs.

She had the haul vacuum-packed in 17 separate bags hidden inside her luggage after flying in to the Scottish capital from Bangkok via Paris.

She claimed she had been coerced by a much older ex-boyfriend and Sheriff Graeme Watson accepted she had been ‘naive and potentially taken advantage of’.

The Glasgow beauty business owner, who runs Brows by Ellie, had already pleaded guilty to supply charges.

In sentencing, Sheriff Watson told Crampsie: ‘I have carefully considered the criminal justice social work report and the plea of mitigation on your behalf.

‘I accept the submission on your behalf that there was a lesser degree of culpability.

‘You knew your former partner had been involved in drugs and he asked you to check in his luggage that also contained female clothes.

‘Your role was one of carrying the cannabis in your luggage and I accept there was a power imbalance in the relationship.’

So – it’s 16 months in jail for Ms Crampsie. She’ll probably do 6 – 8 and then go free. Which might seem a little lenient, but again, it’s a lot harsher than other young British ladies have been getting for the same crime.

Either way, she’s very lucky she didn’t get caught trying to pull this stunt on the Thailand side of her trip.
