BA Passenger Sues For £50,000 Saying Cut On Little Finger Gave Him Nightmares
A businessman is suing British Airways for more than £50,000, claiming he suffered ‘flashbacks and nightmares’ after cutting his little finger on a flight.
Andrew Chesterton, 61, of Chelmsford, Essex, was flying Business Class from London Heathrow to Cincinnati when he reached into a gap in his seat (Seat 1A) and caught two of his fingers on a sharp object.
Chesterton describes feeling ‘immediate pain and shock’ as he realised he was bleeding from lacerations to his ring and little finger.

The former chief operating officer at financial services company Bravura Solutions was taken to hospital upon landing – where he received 11 stitches.
He claims the injury has left him with permanent scarring and “reduced grip strength”.
He further claims to have suffered significant psychological trauma, including ‘flashbacks and nightmares’ about the incident. He reports experiencing anxiety in social situations and was prescribed sleeping tablets to manage sleep disturbances linked to the event.
He also claims he was unable to drive for two months following the injury.

British Airways has admitted liability for the accident itself but is contesting the amount of damages.
The airline argues it is not liable to compensate Chesterton for any alleged psychiatric injury, which I think is their way of calling him pvssy?
The case will proceed to a full assessment of damages unless BA and Chesterton reach a settlement out of court. To be fair to the man – it does sound like it was a pretty gruesome injury to his two fingers; with 11 stiches (4 + 7) required to his ring and pinky. That does sound like a reasonably serious injury that will inconvenience you as you recover.
Flashbacks and nightmares though? Maybe you can blag £50,000 in court over in the US for that, but not in the UK. Maybe he could check if his travel insurance covers it?
