Mum Caught With 14KG Cocaine At Manchester Airport After Travelling From Dominican Republic

A mum busted with 14kg of cocaine in her suitcase at Manchester Airport has been jailed alongside her son, who was said to be the ‘mastermind’ behind the failed operation.

Amanda Meadowcroft, 54, from Darwen, Blackburn, received seven years in prison, while son Bradley Couzens , 34, also from Darwen, got seven years and six months. Not too shabby considering the monster amount of cocaine they brought over.

Meadowcroft was intercepted by Border Force officers at Manchester Airport after flying back from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, last April.

For some reason, Meadowcroft claimed she had won the holiday on Facebook, but officers then found 14 1kg packages of cocaine in her luggage.

Mobile phone analysis by the National Crime Agency revealed her son, Bradley (below), had organised the trip, flight logistics, and drug collection. Imagine sending your mum over to the Dominican Republic on a drug run? “Hi mum, would you mind flying out to the Carribean and lugging a massive bag of cocaine back to Manchester for me?” Madness.

Meadowcroft was already serving a suspended sentence for a previous conviction involving the importation of 30kg of cannabis, just so you know what kind of geniuses we’re dealing with here.

During Bradley’s arrest, he attempted to destroy his phone with his handcuffs, causing an injury to an NCA officer’s finger. This led to the assault charge which tacked on 6 months to his sentence relative to his mum’s.

So yeah, not much of a ‘mastermind’ after all. Came up with a plan that landed not only himself but also his mum in jail for the next few years. Although I suppose he’s fortunate his mum was caught in the UK and not abroad where penalties for this sort of thing are usually harsher. Every cloud and all that…
