‘Woman In Dress’ Kills 9 And Injures 25 In Canada School Shooting

17-year-old transgender Jesse Strang has been identified as the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooter.

At least 9 victims were killed (6 at the school, 1 en route to the hospital, and 2 at a separate residence), with approximately 25 reported injured, at least two of those in critical condition.

An emergency alert initially described the shooter as a “woman in a dress with brown hair”. Police later confirmed the suspect, Jesse Strang, was found dead inside the school from a self-inflicted gun wound.

A student told CBC that with the help of his classmates, they ‘got tables and barricaded the doors’ as the shooting took place.

On the shooter’s motive, Canadian federal police Chief Supt Floyd says: “I think we will struggle to determine the ‘why’, but we will try our best to determine what transpired.”

He also explained: “We are not in a place to understand why or what may have motivated this tragedy.”

A statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police reads: “As part of the initial response to the active shooting, police entered the school to locate the threat. During the search, officers located multiple victims.

“An individual believed to be the shooter was also found deceased with what appears to be a self‑inflicted injury.”

Tumbler Ridge is a small, isolated town of roughly 2,400 people located about 1,100 km (685 miles) north of Vancouver, where schools will remain closed for the rest of the week.

School shootings in Canada are relatively rare, with this being the deadliest school shooting in the country since 2020, when a gunman killed 13 people in Nova Scotia and set fires which claimed the lives of nine more.

Canada’s PM Mark Carney said: “I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence.”

What else can you say really? Just devastating news and one of the worst school shootings in Canada’s history. It really is so f***ed up that the majority of mass shootings happen in schools, isn’t it?
