Deborah Meaden Admits ‘I Was Tunnel-Visioned’ Over Cancel Culture Denial

Deborah Meaden has admitted that her “eyes have been opened” to the reality of cancel culture after initially questioning its existence during an online disagreement the other day.

The Dragon’s Den star had responded to a post by Adam Brooks on X, which claimed that people in the UK can be “cancelled, sacked or even arrested” for expressing their honest opinions.

Meaden, 66, simply replied: “Examples?”

Cue a whole bunch of responses from X users about regular civilians being sacked, visited by police at home and jailed over social media posts, and also high-profile figures like Graham Linehan, Maya Forstater and Sharron Davies sharing their own personal experiences of being ‘cancelled’.

I guess they were pretty convincing because Deborah Meaden then conceded that she had been “tunnel-visioned” and that her eyes had now been “opened” by the “damning information” provided by social media users.

The uber-wealthy Dragon explained that her previous skepticism was rooted in seeing free speech arguments used to justify “free hate speech,” which led her to overlook genuine cases of individuals being unfairly targeted.

In one of a series of X posts, Meaden clarified: “I’m still going through the many replies and can see there are some horror stories!! This started as a question about free speech because I often see the argument used to allow free hate speech… which I absolutely can’t agree with, but the examples contain some very damning information.

“I made a poor post, of course, I should clarify… I get a lot on my timeline defending awful things and justifying it as freedom of speech, and I was tunnel visioned on that.

And… I genuinely am glad it opened the door.. there’s much I knew and much I didn’t.. I hope that is true of many following this. Have a lovely Sunday… I’m off to walk the dogs and feed the animals x.”

Well, hats off to her for admitting she was uninformed and changing her view when presented with other people’s experiences. It’s understandable really when you’ve got more money than God and live in a multi-millionaire bubble.

Still, it’s the people who never change their minds no matter how much evidence you present that we need to worry about.

Although maybe she was just scared of being cancelled for not believing in cancel culture?

For the time former Dragon Duncan Bannatyne destroyed a 12-year-old on Twitter for asking him for business advice, click HERE. Bit harsh really.
