Someone Earned A Nice $400,000 After Insider Trading Maduro’s Capture Hours Before It Happened
As you may have heard, the United States bombed Venezuela yesterday and casually captured their President Nicolás Maduro before flying him out to New York where he’ll face drugs and weapons charges.
Some might say this is all just a front for the US to get their mitts on Venezuela’s oil, but let’s not get into that right now.
What we really want to talk about is how someone placed a suspicious, highly-profitable bet on Polymarket just hours before the US flew in and captured Maduro, placing a wager of roughly $32,000 on a contract predicting Maduro’s exit by a specific date (January 31, 2026).
The account was created in December 2025 and the bet was placed late on Friday night, just hours before US forces captured Maduro and President Trump made the announcement on Saturday morning.
The market probability for the event was initially low (around 6%) but surged after the capture, resulting in a return of over 1,200% for the trader.
Now there’s no way of knowing at the moment who the mystery trader is, but it’s obviously someone who had a heads up about the operation. One big trader account is reporting that it was Barron Trump, which would be kinda hilarious, but there’s no telling for sure.
If this was the stock market, it would be a crime, and it probably is a crime on Polymarket too. I mean, we all know this stuff happens and there’s F-all we can do about it, but this is an especially blatant example of insider trading happening right in our faces.
In any case, in response to this particular trade, Representative Ritchie Torres plans to introduce the Public Integrity in Financial Prediction Markets Act of 2026, a bill that would prohibit federal officials from trading on prediction markets if they possess, or could reasonably obtain, material non-public information.
Let’s see if that makes a blind bit of difference. Spoiler = it won’t.
