Man ‘Degraded’ By Asda Delivery Driver Wins Four-Figure Payout
A man who was left feeling ‘degraded’ by what an Asda delivery driver allegedly said to him has received a four-figure payout in compensation, according to Metro.
Necati Ayhan, 22, had his shopping delivered to his home on Lord Street in Southport on October 31, and when the order arrived, the driver asked for his help in carrying the shopping upstairs.
Necati, who has fibromyalgia and autism, explained to the driver that he was unable to help due to being disabled.
Necati claims he heard the delivery driver say ‘disabled my @rse,’ before heading back to the van to retrieve more of the shopping.
He then challenged the driver on his comment, and the driver replied: ‘You don’t look disabled to me.’
Necati was so offended that he told the driver to take the shopping back and return the order to the store.
Necati says he was ‘shocked’ by the incident, which made him feel ‘degraded, embarrassed, and terrible.’ Just in case you couldn’t tell from his A+ compo face:

He told the Liverpool Echo: ‘It would have been completely different if I had been in a wheelchair. I actually have a wheelchair, I need it when I go out, but not when I’m at home.’
After instructing the driver to return the order to Asda, Necati got a taxi to the store at Central Twelve Shopping Park and made a complaint.
He was offered a £30 voucher to cover the taxi he took to Asda, and was then notified days later that the driver who allegedly made the comments had left the company.
An email sent to Necati read: ‘I have been advised that the driver has been in a disciplinary and has now stepped down from the role.
‘He will no longer be working as a delivery driver. We appreciate you letting us know about this because customer service is important.
‘I have asked Stephen to remind his drivers of the need to be as helpful as possible and to be courteous at all time.’
Asda has reportedly since paid Necati a ‘four figure sum’, and the delivery driver has moved on to pastures new. Obviously it must suck to have an invisible illness and have someone doubt it to your face, but am I the only one who feels a little bad for the driver losing his job?
I mean, he didn’t call Necati any names, and “disabled my @rse” under your breath isn’t something I would consider wildly offensive. Ignorant? Sure. But maybe he was having a bad day, or maybe he’s just an idiot?
Was it really worth complaining about? Well, clearly, because Necati has banked four figures off the back of it. I’m sure Asda also do not want their drivers insulting customers. All in all, fair play to Necati for putting his foot down.
