Billy Bob Thornton Blasts Hollywood Celebrities Who Constantly Talk About Politics
Bad Santa and Fargo legend Billy Bob Thornton went on Joe Rogan’s podcast the other day and ripped into actors and actresses who insist on talking politics.
The 70-year-old actor noted that he does plenty for charity but never talks about it because he genuinely does it to help, and not for the recognition. And so he finds it quite irritating when his peers go up on stage at awards shows and insist on getting political:

He said: “I donate to a lot of charities, mainly children’s stuff. But nobody knows it. I don’t go to the award show and talk about it while I’m getting my award.
It’s like Ricky Gervais said, ‘Look, come up here, accept your little award, and f*** off.’ First of all, unless you’ve really studied stuff and know about a subject fully, who the hell would want to listen to a musician or an actor talk about politics?
It’s like, ‘Are we supposed to follow this? If we are, what if they lead you down the wrong road?’”
On his own politics: “And politically, I call myself a radical moderate. I’m very strong in my opinions. But, my opinions don’t belong to any political party. I just look at what makes sense. And I think we need a common sense party in this country. That’s actually what we need.”
Thornton’s new show Landman is often accused of having a political agenda as it’s centred around the oil industry, but the show itself doesn’t appear to be either pro or anti-oil; it’s just set in a world that shows how the whole thing works.
The show did send a few people into meltdown however after a rant from Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, against “clean energy” went viral after being shared by Donald Trump. It’s not like he can help that though, can he?
