Really bizarre story out of Birmingham this week that involves one of the stupidest crimes ever committed on British soil… by an American woman from Wisconsin.
Aimee Betro, 45, was recruited as a budget hitwoman by Birmingham man Mohammed Nabil Nazil after meeting him on Tinder. Nazir was embroiled in a bitter feud between his family and that of local shopkeeper Aslat Mahumad, and figured this random woman from America that he met on Tinder would make the perfect assassin.
Nazir convinced Betro to fly out to the UK (he had flown her out once previously as a lover), with expenses covered by him and his dad, Mohammed Aslam.
He put her up in Birmingham hotels, bought her a burner phone, and even secured a Mercedes for use as a a getaway vehicle (which she crashed, and ended up needing to use a taxi). The plan was to assassinate Sikander Ali, the son of the aforementioned shopkeeper, in retaliation for a violent brawl earlier that year.
And so, on 7 September 2019, Betro dressed up in full niqab to disguise herself, and waited outside Ali’s home. When he stepped out of his car, she aimed the gun at him at point-blank range, but it jammed, and Ali was able to escape unharmed. Here’s the footage:

Lucky man. As you saw in the video above, Betro then returned by taxi to Ali’s house in the early hours of the next morning and fired several shops into the (empty) home.
She then followed this up by sending some darkly absurd text messages to the victim’s dad, including: “Where are you hiding?”, “Stop playing hide and seek – you’re lucky it jammed” and “Who is it? Yor family or you? Pick one.” Sounds like Betro was really enjoying her first gig as a hitwoman, even though she was completely terrible at it.
Having failed her mission and realising it was probably not a good idea to stick around in Birmingham (why would you want to anyway?), Betro fled the UK a day later and went into hiding in Armenia, where she remained for nearly five years. She was eventually arrested there in July 2024 and extradited back to the UK in January 2025, where she was convicted this week (August 12) of conspiracy to murder, possession of a firearm with intent, and illegal importation of ammunition.
Betro will be sentenced next month, with her accomplices, Mohammed Nabil Nazir and his father Mohammed Aslam (below), having already been sentenced to 32 years and 10 years respectively.
But wait, there’s more: the would-be victim, Sikander Ali, was subsequently busted for a drugs operation he was running as a result of the police looking into the whole drama. He was linked to supplying at least 14kg of cocaine and sentenced to nine years and six months, plus four additional years for firearms offenses, totaling 13.5 years.
Better than being shot dead, I suppose. And for that, he’s lucky that his mortal enemies are complete idiots. Imagine recruiting a random American girl that you match on Tinder as an international hitwoman, flying her out to the UK, dressing her up in a niqab, and having her be so completely useless from the jump. Not exactly the female John Wick, was she?
As for Aimee Betro – imagine being insane enough to travel from the US to Birmingham to kill a guy on behalf some dude you met online, and his dad.
In the end, it’s good to know that every awful person involved in this story is now locked up behind bars.
For the mum who put out a hit on her 12-year-old daughter because she was ‘fed up’ with her behaviour, click HERE. That one didn’t go to plan, either.
