A group of 5th-grade girls have been arrested after plotting to murder a boy in the bathroom and make it look like he took his own life — with one of the girls caught smiling and laughing as she made excuses to investigators, police said.

The Arizona elementary schoolers plotted to stab a fellow fifth-grade boy after a girl accused him of “cheating” on her.

A report claims the girl was allegedly in a ‘relationship’ with the boy, who had cheated on her. The girl hated him and wanted him dead, NBC reported.

During lunch one day, the girls, aged 10 and 11, planned to lure the boy into the bathroom and stab him in the stomach. Or “just end him”, as they put it.

They agreed to wear gloves so there would be no fingerprints and planned to write a fake suicide note, with one acting as a lookout.

The girls set a date to carry out the attack but in classic elementary school fashion, other students got wind of the murder plot and informed teachers before it could happen.

Two 10-year-olds and two 11-year-olds were arrested. They were arrested on one count of threatening and a second count of disorderly conduct.

Three of the girls showed remorse when confronted by police and school administrators, but the fourth girl was smiling and laughing when coming up with excuses over the murder plot.

In the end, police released the girls to their parents and they were suspended from school with expulsion pending.

There’s a lot of discourse online over whether these girls should be charged as adults, because the idea that they could even come up with such a plan at ages 10 and 11 is so terrifying. I don’t really think this makes sense because they’re still kids at the end of the day, and can’t process the consequences of their actions in the way that adults can.

What about their parents though? Obviously they’ve completely failed in some respects if their kids think that stabbing a lad to death is justified because he supposedly cheated on one of them. Then again, is that really something that needs to be taught? I’m not sure there are many parents out there who literally have to sit their child down and explain to them that killing people who make you angry is wrong. Maybe these girls, or at least the ringleader, are genuine psychopaths.

In any case, their parents definitely need to keep an eye on them. Lucky escape for this 10/11-year-old player who’s already cheating on girls in the fifth grade. Big up to the students who grassed these girls up and potentially saved his life.
